Curcumin and its Amazing Cancer Fighting Properties
And curcumin has been shown to have incredible anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
“In fact, over 2,000 published studies have shown curcumin combats cancers of the breast, prostate, liver, colon, lung, pancreas and more. Many of these studies have shown curcumin actually stops cancer cells from dividing.
Curcumin has also been shown to trigger apoptosis, or programmed cell death, which is the body’s natural and necessary way of ridding itself from damaged cells.”
Because of its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, curcumin is used for many ailments and illnesses.
What is Curcumin Used For?
Curcumin has been used for centuries as a natural way to cure and prevent many things such as:
- Aging skin
- Painful joints
- Painful/Achy muscles
- Toxins built up in the body
- Being overweight
How does Curcumin Fight Cancer? Is there Evidence? And can it be used in conjunction with Chemotherapy Drugs and/or Radiation?
One of the reasons curcumin is a great cancer fighter is because of its ability to interfere with multiple cell signaling pathways.
And because most cancers are “caused by dysregulation of as many as 500 different genes, agents that target multiple gene products are needed for prevention and treatment of cancer. Curcumin has been shown to interact with a wide variety of proteins and modify their expression and activity. These include inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, transcription factors, and gene products linked with cell survival, proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis.”
Because it’s able to interact with multiple areas, it is effective against many types of cancer including, but not limited to:
- Breast cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Prostate cancer
- Stomach cancer
- Liver cancer
- Colon cancer
- Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
- Neurological cancers
- Lung cancer
- And melanoma
In this study, it was concluded that curcumin inhibits the rapid division of cancer cells, prevents cancer that is induced from carcinogens, as well as inhibits the spreading and growth of human tumors.
It also discovered that curcumin inhibits the metastasis and proliferation of cancer cells even when chemo and radiation are used! 😀
One benefit to using curcumin in your anti-cancer diet is unlike chemotherapy, which was derived from mustard gas and many of the drugs are known carcinogens (read about that here), curcumin is nontoxic to your body’s healthy cells.

If you like the first two episodes as much as I did, you can purchase all 9 episodes from The Truth About Cancer (I HIGHLY recommend it – I purchased the “Instant Download PLUS DVDs And Transcripts Shipped” from the Gold Package. I’ve highlighted about 2/3 of every page in the transcript while following the DVD! It’s that informative!) The evidence and information is mind-blowing and you will learn a lot! The Silver and Gold packages are below.
How can Curcumin be easily added to your Diet?
First of all, it’s important to know the human body has a hard time absorbing curcumin when consumed by itself. It is only soluble in fat, not water. So combining turmeric/curcumin with healthy oils such as extra virgin olive or coconut oil that you use in a recipe will prove best.
Another option is to ingest it while eating foods containing high amounts of healthy fats like avocados.
Please remember that if you have cancer, never use vegetable oils such as corn, soy, canola, sunflower, etc.
These oils are pro-inflammatory oils which mean they contribute to cancer and counteract the anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin. Also, they are often rancid as well as almost always genetically modified.
Also, it’s important to note that “when combined with other powerful nutrients such as fish oil, olive or coconut oil, and/or black pepper, curcumin’s anti-cancer effects are further amplified as it becomes more readily available to the body.”
Turmeric powder can be sprinkled on eggs, added to soups, sprinkled in chili, mixed into smoothies (check out these 5 healthy smoothie recipes for cancer patients), and added to fish dishes.
You can also make a healing tea using turmeric and ginger, both have powerful anti-cancer properties. Begin by finely slicing or grating fresh turmeric root. After that, grate or slice ginger root. Next, add both to a teapot and let it steep in the hot water for 3-5 minutes. If you’d like to sweeten your tea, local honey from a natural foods store is a good choice as honey has antibacterial properties.
How much Curcumin should you take if you have Cancer?
After researching, the regular dosage (as far as supplements) is 750 mg taken 1-4 times per day. This translates to one or two times per day as a preventative measure and three or four times per day if you are fighting cancer.
Because curcumin is cleared from the blood rather quickly, in fact usually within 4-5 hours, it’s best to divide your intake throughout the day.
If you want to take turmeric powder instead of curcumin capsules, this is what is recommended:
“1 tablespoon of dried turmeric powder weighs 6.8 grams. The average amount of curcumin (by weight) in turmeric powder is 3.4%. So, 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder is equal to 6.8 grams x 3.4% = 0.231 grams or 231 milligrams. Therefore, if you want to take 500 milligram of curcumin per day, you will need to consume approximately 2 tablespoons of dried turmeric powder.”
These are the supplements I recommend –
Turmeric Curcumin Complex with Black Pepper Extract – 750 mg per Capsule, 180 Veg. Caps – Contains Piperine (For Superior Absorption and Turmeric Bio-availability) and 95% Standardized Curcuminoids For Maximum Potency.
It contains 95% curcuminoids, no GMO ingredients, and 5 mg of black pepper to help the body absorb the curcumin.
Turmeric Curcumin with BioPerine Black Pepper Extract – 750 mg per Capsule, 120 Veg. Capsules – GMO Free Tumeric, Standardized to 95% Curcuminoids for Maximum Potency.
It also contains 95% curcuminoids, no GMO ingredients, and 5 mg of black pepper to help the body absorb the curcumin.
Both supplements contain 750 mg per capsule as well as the same ingredients, and both have great reviews (4.7/5 stars for both products on Amazon). The main difference is the first one has 180 capsules per container and the second has 120.
This one is “Turmeric Curcumin with Bioperine 1500mg. Highest Potency Available. 95% Standardized Curcuminoids. Non-GMO, Gluten Free Turmeric Capsules with Black Pepper.” So it’s also a great option (and has great reviews – 4.8/5 stars)! It mostly comes down to your preference and what is recommended by your nutritionist.
When you are looking for products, Dr. Mercola recommends locating high quality turmeric/curcumin that “contains 100 percent certified organic ingredients, with at least 95 percent curcuminoids. The formula should be free of fillers, additives, and excipients (a substance added to the supplement as a processing or stability aid), and the manufacturer should use safe production practices at all stages: planting, cultivation, selective harvesting, and then producing and packaging the final product.”
