Making Yoga during Pregnancy FUN
Yoga during pregnancy is so beneficial!! In my last article, “What’s SO Great about Yoga during Pregnancy?” I discussed the pros and cons of using a prenatal yoga DVD vs. going to a yoga class, as well as 6 ways yoga benefits your pregnancy and birth experience.
Discovering the benefits of yoga while being pregnant happened when my mom suggested I try a yoga DVD during my pregnancy. She was so kind and bought me a DVD she thought would be best.
Even though it really was great and I saw many benefits from it, it quickly became boring.
The DVD lasted about 45-60 minutes and was the same yoga poses…in the same order…day-after-day (which obviously could’ve been an easy thing to fix if I had just thought about buying another DVD haha…). But I did use the DVD every day and was grateful for the benefits it gave.
Because I became bored with the one DVD though, I started thinking, what could I do to make prenatal yoga more fun?
Here’s what I found:
1. Interact with Other Pregnant Moms
If you decide to go to a yoga class – getting to know other moms will be fairly easy. But if you’re following a yoga DVD, it can be harder to get that benefit.
If you’re using a DVD, there are groups for pregnant mothers on Facebook that you can join to “meet” and talk to other new mothers. There are also pages you can like on Facebook and groups to follow on Pinterest.
2. Try Both – a DVD and a Class
I preferred following a DVD mostly because there weren’t many prenatal yoga classes offered where I lived. I also worked during ¾ of my pregnancy so the DVD offered more flexibility.
Everyone has different schedules and different personalities so you may prefer to use a DVD where you get more flexibility but less interaction. Or a yoga class which is great if you don’t have a cluttered schedule and want to meet other new moms.
Try both to see which you find more fun and appealing.
3. Buy a new Yoga Outfit
Maybe all you need to do to get more enjoyment out of your yoga routine is buy a new yoga outfit. Maybe you just need something new and colorful to look forward to the yoga workout.
There are quite a few stores that sell maternity yoga clothes, some being: Macy’s, Old Navy, Motherhood Maternity, and Nordstrom.
You can also find some online, click the images below to see some options.
4. Discover which Poses Benefit you Most
If you don’t like a pose or if it doesn’t benefit you, you’ll soon lose interest. The ones that I felt helped the most with preparing me for giving birth were:

5. Play Music
Sometimes all you need is some of your favorite music playing in the background.
The nice thing about using a yoga DVD is you can turn the volume of the TV off, just watch the screen, and listen to your own music.
If you’re going to a class, you can listen to your favorite tunes driving there and back home.
We all have different taste in music, but no matter what your favorite type is, listening to it can help you have more fun, feel more relaxed, and help you enjoy your yoga routine!
